Monday July 28th was my birthday. Not just any birthday, but a milestone birthday of 30! Since I'm now grown up, birthdays seem to be like any other day. Since I have a summer birthday I used to have the day off from school and work. This has not been the case for the past several years. I work at a year round school, so I got up early Monday morning and went to work just like any other day. Most people say that 30 is a scary birthday. I had thought I would be scared or nervous but it was just like any other birthday. I received several birthday greetings at work and no one even thought I looked 30. Twenty something maybe, but not 30. And the best part is I don't feel 30. I guess I don't really know what 30 is supposed to feel like. My mom told me that if she could return to any age it would be her 30's. They were some of the best years of her life. I hope I can say the same thing some day. So after a day of work I came home not feeling quite well. Paul and I had plans to go out to dinner but decided to say home instead. Even though it wasn't a memorable dinner dessert was the best. My absolute favorite dessert is ice cream cake from Baskin-Robins. You can pick any ice cream and put it with vanilla cake. How can you go wrong with ice cream and cake together. Paul picked out one of my favorite flavors, cookies and cream! Thanks Batman!
This year and the next few years will be bring on many new changes in my life. Paul and I will be having a wonderful little boy. The first grand baby of the family! That in it self is an exciting change. By the end of the year we will have finished many long awaited house projects. Within the next few years my parents will hopefully be moving to Utah. It will be over 8 years since we've lived in the same state, another long awaited change. I finally feel like I have a handle on my job and love (on most days) getting up and going to work. This will be the first in five years that I've worked part time as a speech pathologist. Having Fridays off will be a change I'm looking forward to. Coincidently, Paul will also have Fridays off, working four 10 hour days. This will give us time to spend with our new baby and enjoy more family time. Another change that some people may think is a sign of getting older (although I'm in denial) is the fact that I now wear bifocal glasses. I've decided that instead of making me look older they make me look wiser and more sophisticated. Even though my birthday was just like any other day (almost), it marks a milestone of many wonderful changes to come.
