4th of July

For those of you who know me you may remember that I don't like loud noises. Especially loud surprising ones including fire alarms, balloons (I'm afraid they might pop), nail guns (which Paul used a lot to finish our basement), thunder, and well any thing that makes a loud explosion-like noise. I guess you could say I have a phobia of loud noises also know as: ligyrophobia. I never knew it had a name until I looked it up. This fear all started when I was young. I was playing with a balloon and it popped in my face. Ever since then I've had this fear. I used to be embarrassed by this but I've come to realize it's apart of who I am.

So you can probably guess which holiday is my least favorite. That's right, the 4th of July, but New Years Eve comes in close second with the party poppers. This year for the 4th of July my parents, Paul and I went up to Pocatello to visit some family and friends. Luckily I was prepared with ear plugs for the big event. Thanks to my dad for teaching my how to properly place the plugs in my ears I can actually say I enjoyed the fireworks show. I've seen many firework displays in my life and I have to say that I've never seen anything as breathtakingly beautiful as the ones I saw this 4th of July holiday. The best part about this was we were able to see them from the driveway of our friends house. We avoided all the lines and crowds of people. The fireworks were set to patriotic music and lasted about 45 minutes. I can't even describe the feeling of watching big bright lights explode in the sky above me. It was amazing! For these fireworks I will gladly put my ligyrophobia aside, wear my ear plugs, and enjoy the show. If you are ever in the mood to get away for the 4th of July, might I suggest going to see the fireworks in Pocatello, ID.
The pictures don't do it justice but here are a few of my favorites.

Badminton Fun

One of my favorite sports to play during the summer is badminton. Since we have a pretty long yard it makes a great place to play. Last weekend when my brother Craig came to visit with my parents, Paul and I, we set up our net for the first time this year. Since we haven't played in a year we lost many of our birdies while cleaning our shed. We found one to start with, but as you can see it didn't last too long. I may not be very good but I sure like to try and hit the birdie. It's a little more challenging now that I am pregnant. I can't run quite as fast as I used to.

Breakfast: A work in progress

On Wednesday June 25th my parents arrived for a two week visit. In being a good hostess I decided I would make them waffles the next day for breakfast. Waffles are one of my favorite breakfast to eat but I've never actually made them. This is usually Paul's job and since he had to go to work I thought I'd give it a try. As you can see by the picture the first one came out in a big pile of crumbles. I'm not quite sure what had happened. I followed the recipe and did everything Paul does but still some how couldn't seem to make it work. Luckily I have a very brave dad who still ate it anyway. I guess it still tasted good it just didn't look too pretty. By the third waffle I think I got the hang of it. I think from now on I will leave the waffle making up to Paul.

It's a boy!

On Thursday June 19,2008 I had my targeted ultrasound. This is one of the 3-D pictures that were taken that day. It's really amazing the things technology can do these days. During this time and every other time we've had an ultrasound done this little boy has been very wiggly. Now that I am beginning to feel him move he is very active and moves all the time. We've decided that until we come up with a name his nickname will be "wiggles". That night Paul and I went to a bluegrass concert at the Ogden Nature Center and during one of the faster songs this little boy was wiggling all around. He must have good taste in music just like his mom and dad.

Flap off. Flap on. The Flapper.

So some of you are probably wondering what this funny looking black thing is in the picture. Well if you've ever had problems with your toilet running, and running, and running, you know exactly what this is. If you look at the "beautiful" picture of the toilet display it's the part that is highlighted in blue known as the flapper. Now I'm not the type of person that has an interest in toilets or anything strange like that. We've had this problem with our upstairs toilet which is ancient and beginning to really irritate me! It seems like lately after I've flushed I have to wait a minute or two to see if the toilet will stop running. Sometimes it does but when it doesn't it's because that little flapper that drains all the water is stuck open. Several times this week I've had to "jiggle" the handle or rather vigorously shake it until the toilet stops running. And that trick hasn't seemed to work lately! This really irritates me because then I have to take off the lid and figure out what is causing the problem and I never seem to figure it out. Like a crazy person I continue to shake the handle while the back top of the toilet is off until I can see the water begin to fill again. Who has time to do this twenty times a day, which is about how much I have to use the bathroom because I'm pregnant! I was just really annoyed by this and the fact that Paul has replaced the flapper once before doesn't seem to help. So I can't believe I'm actually going to say this but I think I want my next big purchase to be a brand new toilet. And I'm excited about it. I guess I should tell Paul it's time to go shopping. I think this would be one trip to Lowe's that he wouldn't mind.

Welcome to the Burnett Family Blog!

I kept telling myself that I was going to start a blog as soon as I became pregnant. Then I'd have something interesting to write about. Well I'm five months along so I figured it's time I got started. I figured since most of my family and several friends live out of state this would be a great way to keep in touch and an easy way to share all the exciting adventures to come. So we are trying to get ready for the baby and doing a "little" remodeling to our house. We are dividing our laundry room and making the majority of it a new office. Now when I say "we" I actually mean Paul. He has done everything from new electrical wiring, building a new wall, insulation, drywall and a Pergo floor. Actually the only thing I have done is say "wow that looks great! What's next?" Some help I've been. I have taken a few pictures of this process to document this transformation, which you will hopefully see sometime later when the room is finished. At the moment Paul is telling me he needs to disconnect the internet so he can hang a piece of drywall. How rude! Just when I began to type. Oh well, no big deal. I'd much rather have him working hard than hardly working waiting for me to get off the internet. So I guess this is the end of my first post and will hopefully have a chance to write again soon.
